High mobility group 1 (HMG1) is a highly conserved non-sequence-specific DNA-binding nuclear
protein. Mammalian HMG1 is composed with two homologous DNA-binding domains HMG
boxes, A and B, a short basic region and an acidic C-terminal domain containing 30 consecutive
Asp and Glu residues. Native HMG1 was purified from calf thymus by the combination of
conventional and FPLC chromatography methods to >95% homogeneity. It has been tested for its activity in different assays including in vitro transcription, gel mobility shift assay and TNFαinduction assay.
